Is the 6-month Stock Market Rally About to End?.

by Bob Chapman Global Research October 1, 2009 The G-20 Pittsburg Summit ended last Friday. Their official statements made for some novel and interesting reading. We were informed that the group could by working together could manage a transition to a more balanced pattern of global growth. Tending to domestic demand as private savings increase. It is obvious to us this cannot work. We are seeing increased savings and decreased consumption. The IMF as well agrees with these policies. [more...]

Financial Implosion and Stagnation

Back To The Real Economy John Bellamy Foster and Fred Magdoff MonthlyReview.com But, you may ask, won’t the powers that be step into the breach again and abort the crisis before it gets a chance to run its course? Yes, certainly. That, by now, is standard operating procedure, and it cannot be excluded that it will succeed in the same ambiguous sense that it did after the 1987 stock market crash. If so, we will have the whole process to go through again on a more elevated and more precarious level. [more...]

Citibank (NYSE: C) has sold a significant portion of its brokerage businesses across the world and now plans on reforming what’s left of its North American brokerage business. Asia stocks dip after China growth data

Asian shares fell on Thursday and the Australian dollar briefly retreated amid disappointment that Chinese growth data, though robust, offered few surprises. But the outcome was widely expected, giving investors little to trade on... [more...]

The Dollar’s Role in Rising Risk Appetites

Good Evening: After a couple of wobbly sessions on Friday and Monday, U.S. stocks resumed rising on Tuesday. With little in the way of economic news, it was left to a falling dollar to buoy investor risk appetites. The greenback obliged by setting a new low for 2009, and commodity prices understandably reacted by heading in the opposite direction. Interestingly, however, Treasury yields and credit spreads didn’t rise with renewed dollar weakness; they instead fell. [more...]

Asset Valuation and the Dollar

October 20th, 2009BrianLeave a commentGo to comments Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic. Many people are very upset that the dollar has been declining the past few months.  The call is out for the Fed to raise interest rates (see Barrons headline, October 19, 2009). But there is a flip side to this argument.  Asset valuation (whether real estate, baseball cards or stock equities) is never about fact, but always a matter of opinion.  [more...]

Economic Cycle Theory

The Daily Reckoning Everyone and everything is getting higher and higher.
