‘Tolerate The Inequality’

What an enlightening piece (via All Spin Zone):One of the City’s leading figures has suggested that inequality created by bankers’ huge salaries is a price worth paying for greater prosperity. In remarks that will fuel the row around excessive pay, Lord Griffiths, vice-chairman of Goldman Sachs International and a former adviser to Margaret Thatcher, said banks should not be ashamed of rewarding their staff.Speaking to an audience at St Paul’s Cathedral in London about morality in the marketplace [more...]

Top 5: Knits

Its blooming freezing out there. I have finally had to take the plunge this week and switch the central heating on. And with the thermostat peaking at over 25 degrees indoors (pardon my carbon footprint) and the temperature out there plummeting to single figures, I have had to give my wardrobe a minor overhaul and re-think. Whilst most people have prematurely jumped at the first chance to get out those winter jackets, I am still layering away as many items as is fashion-ly possible. [more...]

Floyd Mayweather Jr, The Dilemma

Let me first start out by saying, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a phenomenal fighter .  He has won the Golden Gloves as an amateur, a bronze medal in the 1996 Olympics and has won 6 world boxing championships in five different weight classes (some say seven depending on what belts you take into consideration).  He is an undefeated fighter with a record of 40 wins (25 by knockout) and zero losses.  He has beaten a who’s who of boxing including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti.  [more...]

Jim Lehrer may never retire

Jim Lehrer, formerly of The Dallas Morning News , now with PBS , was the featured speaker last night at the dinner for Friends of the Dallas Public Library . Lehrer said people sometimes ask when he will retire. He said his answer is: "The day after Bob Miller retires." Bob is Jim's former city editor at The News and is now, of course, a business columnist . It's easy for me to keep up with how long Bob has worked here. It's one year longer than I have been alive. Chick Chattin with Zach Strief: An Afternoon of Recipes, Chat, and Football

Zach Strief didn’t know what he was entering when he arrived in New Orleans in the spring of 2006 to join the Saints as a rookie from Northwestern University. While driving into town, he ended up on the wrong exit and found himself in New Orleans East, an area still uninhabited at that point. He had an 1/8 of gas in the tank and there were no open exits. He didn’t know what he was going to do. He even called his father wondering what he was doing here. [more...]

Job Vacancy – no experience required

Joan Cook retired from the senate on October 6.  The Chretien-era appointee hit the magic age to retire from what used to be known as the Antechamber to the Kingdom of Heaven.  Used to be the only way most senators left the job and its lovely salary was to die. That means there is a vacancy from Newfoundland and Labrador just waiting to be filled by Stephen Harper. Who will get it? There’s a good question. -srbp- [more...]

Pro Cyclocross Rumors and Rumblings - October 21, 2009

The cyclocross season continues to rumble on, and we’re finally seeing the entirety of the cyclocross world get out and into form (unfortunately, it looks like we’ve lost Lars Boom to the road for good at this point). Even Marianne Vos was out early this year, taking home the Nacht van Woerden, and trotting out her World Champion stripes for the first time this season. In other, less visible news, there’s been a bunch of contract talk out there, so we’ll sort out some of the best moves. [more...]

Fresh Graduate Entering the Employment

The economy situation in many developed countries has just been recovering from the last financial crisis. Former AG Mukasey: Courts Aren't Up To The Task

Sitting on the bench at 500 Pearl Street, a District Court judge about to retire to the pasture of Biglaw equity, Michael Mukasey showed little reluctance to believe in the power of the federal court system to handle whatever was thrown at it.  Sitting as former Attorney General of the United States, even if only for a brief spell between a disgraced predecessor and new administration, he has a different view. The Future of the Growing Senior Population

Many people have heard about the changing demographics of the United States, but they are not quite sure how this will affect their lives. The fact is, the population of those over the age of 65 is growing at two times the rate of younger groups, and the over 85 population is growing even faster at three times the rate. This plays a role in the economic development of the country, the status of the American family, and the expanding market of businesses that target seniors. [more...]

Six Games In the Vikings Looking Extra Special

Looking back over the last, oh say….40 years of Viking history. There have been many moments that could be construed as “special”. The 69 Vikings with their dominating defense, and offense led by Joe Kapp looked unbeatable as they ripped through the NFL on their way to being 17 point favorites leading up to the Super Bowl. The World’s Sport: In Defence of Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo dives, or, more properly speaking, he simulates fouls. It’s true, and I readily concede that point.
