Treasury prices fall as investors move into stocks
NEW YORK — Treasurys fell Wednesday, sending their yields higher, as investors dropped safe-haven investments in favor of stocks . In afternoon trading, the benchmark 10-year Treasury fell 14/32 to 101 27/32, pushing its yield up to 3.40 percent from 3.34 percent late Tuesday. Stocks benefited at bonds' expense as a fresh round of stronger earnings from banks and technology companies including Wells Fargo & Co., Morgan Stanley and Yahoo Inc. sent major stock indexes higher. Qatar is following Abu Dhabi in downsizing its stake in the British bank Barclays, only acquired less than a year ago to help the bank survive the global financial crisis without state aid.
